Omnibus Report for the week of 10/22/2017

This week on the omnibus front there are very slim pickings but one of them looks to be a real gem for DC Comics fans.

On 10/24/2017 Grayson: The Superspy Omnibus by Tom King, Tim Seeley, and Mikel Janin. This grand tome weighs in at 792 pages and collects Grayson 1-20, Grayson:Futures End 1, Secret Origins 8, Grayson Annual 1-3, Robin War 1-2, and Nightwing: Rebirth 1.

Dick Grayson is one of the oldest and most beloved characters in the history of DC Comics starting out in 1940 as Batman's sidekick and has probably had the most career changes of any long term DC character except for Jimmy Olson, most probably.
I first met Dick Grayson as Burt Ward portrayed him in the 1960s Batman TV series. As seen on TV, Dick was an energetic teen who was nearly as intelligent as Batman himself.
In the early 1970s, in the comic book, Dick went off to college and decided to hang up the mantle of Robin for a bit while Bruce moved into a downtown penthouse as the comic book sought to redefine itself in the wake of the crash of Batmania.

Later Dick would assume the mantle of Robin once again and lead the Teen Titans. While leading the Teen Titans, Dick decides it is time to become his own man and decides to create a new name for himself as Nightwing after a hero from Krypton that Superman had told young Dick stories about.

For many DC fans, Dick Grayson is the lynchpin of the DC Universe. In Infinite Crisis when Earth-2's Superman tries to win Batman to his side by pointing out how everything on the current earth is horrible, Wonder Woman has become a murderer, Superman had been killed by Doomsday and under the control of Maxwell Lord almost murdered Batman, and Batman himself is so paranoid he's constructed a satellite system to spy on other superheroes, a satellite system that has gone out of Batman's control and is creating monsters. Batman almost waivers but he asks Earth-2's Superman, "What about our Dick Grayson?" And E2's Superman has to concede that Dick Grayson is the one ray of light in this Dark DC Universe.

Later, for reasons unknown to me Dick Grayson becomes a super spy and stars in this omnibus!

With a writer like Tom King on board, I really wish this was a book I was getting, but as regular readers and viewers know, I am already backlogged on my Omnibuses with several more on the way.

Tom King has written the acclaimed Omega Men, Vision, and is currently writing the highly acclaimed Mister Miracle.

Tim Seeley is both a writer and artist known for such works as the Nightwing Rebirth series, G. I. Joe, and Batman Eternal.

Mikiel Janin is the artist best known for Justice League Dark and helped redefine Dick Grayson for his role as a superspy.

If you are getting/get this book tell me how much you like it below in the comment section!

Until next time, keep reading comics!

From The Pile Episode 4: The Flash 42:"Night of the Mechanical Zombies"

Today I bring you The Flash #42 from 1990 by William Messner-Loebs, Greg La Rocque, and Jose Martin Jr. "Night of the Mechanical Zombies" starts off with a nice philosophical discussion comparing a computer's creation of cyber-space-time with a human being's creation of space-time. Unfortunately, I didn't know all the characters. I didn't read the Flash. Even now I have read very little Flash and am mostly familiar with the character through the 1990 and current TV show. That being said, I really enjoyed this story. It had so many cool elements to it, like the opening monolog I mentioned above and then we have a woman whose name I never learned, who is inhabited by the ghost of an ancient Irish Bard named Seamus. We get a brief glimpse of Wally West's then-girlfriend who is a supermodel who sells cat food named Connie. And then we have our heroine who's name is Tina, a former girlfriend of Wally West. This story does a great job of buil...

Omnibus Report for the week of October 15, 2017

We have three omnibuses to preview this weekend all three scheduled to be released on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. We will follow this report up with an unboxing of all three. Starting off this list is the conclusion to DC's New 52 Justice League and that is  Justice League: The Darkseid War Saga Omnibus by Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok and Francis Manapul. Weighing in at 512 pages this volume collects Justice League #40-50, Justice League: Darkseid War Special #1, Divergence #1, and Darkseid War 1-6. I've managed to remain mainly spoiler-free on the story here. I will say, I have read Trinity War and Forever Evil, and I found both those stories a lot of fun so I am expecting this to be a lot of fun too. Also for DC fans this week, comes  Batman/The Flash: The Button Deluxe Edition by Tom King, Joshua Williamson, Jason Fabok, and Howard Porter. This volume is 104 pages and collects Batman #21-22 and The Flash #21-22. This story sounds like a great deal of fun but I am...

Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus Drops 12/12/2017

As I said in one of my previous videos, the main reason I started this channel is to keep other people who interested in omnibus editions up-to-date with upcoming titles. Especially the ones I am most interested in. Now at any given time there are a boatload of new and reprinted omnibuses coming out as well as collected editions, collected editions usually being the trade paperback that generally contains 6-8 issues of a given title. Sometimes collected editions are lumped in with omnibuses but an omnibus is usually an event comic that contains the main event title and all the related tie-ins. Other times an omnibus will contain an entire run of a title or, as in the case of my most highly anticipated omnibus of the next few months, an entire line of comics. Currently scheduled to be released on December 12, 2017 and part of the Kirby 100 celebration is  Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus   is my number one 'get' of all the upcoming omnibuses. It is impossible to und...
